POETRY ON THE WALL BOOKLET
Every two years some of the villagers of St Tudy open their gardens to the public, usually in July. 2006 was no exception, but to make the event more entertaining I persuaded people to write a poem, on any subject, to be displayed on the gardens that were open, on the wall of the Forge, in the churchyard and various other places in the village. In total we had 61 poems, including 19 from the village schoolchildren. During the Garden Safari so many people said that the poems should be put into a book, how could I refuse?
With a little gentle persuasion I managed to get various local companies and individuals to ‘sponsor’ the book as the printing costs were higher than I had expected and I wanted the printing to be in colour and also the selling price to be under £3. Fortunately the generous people of St Tudy came up trumps and I managed to cover the whole of the printing costs.
The book is now on sale at our local Post Office, the Cornish Arms Pub, Trelawney Garden Centre and Wadebridge Book Shop or from myself for £2.95 (plus p & p). It would make an ideal small gift.
All profits from the booklet will go back into the village, the first project being to replace the wooden fencing around the azaleas in the centre of the village with granite to match that around the chestnut tree.
