St Tudy Carnival 2003

Saturday 12th July was the date, the venue the playing fields. The weather couldn’t have been better, some say it was even too hot! The stage was set for a bumper carnival and it was certainly a carnival to remember!
The walking entries were down slightly but the there were more floats than ever and the visiting carnival queens, kings, princes and princesses looked splendid in their finery. Sid and Ivy had risen to the occasion and their version of Jack and Jill made us all chuckle as well as win first prize in the adult class. Pam Davies came second as Police women with a message.
Was that Poppy Yeomens under that very unusual costume? She looked very realistic as a jelly fish and won first prize for children 7-14 years.
A lot of hard work and thought had gone into the floats. Best artistic float was won by the Jungle Book and it was hard to actually to see who was on the float they were so well camouflaged!

The best open float went to 1st Breward Brownies who were all dressed as cool Jazz cats and third went to St Tudy Pre School ably led by Nurse Simmons.
The judging for the best humorous float was a tough one. St Mabyn Young Farmers won as Old MacDonald’s Farm. Why do they always squirt water at everybody! Second prize was won by the Cornfords and Lucks as St Tudy Obesweeties and third prize to Pans People revisited with a very natty dance routine. Not sure whether Phil Tizzard needed a licence for those legs!
The crowd were entertained by the St Breward Silver Band and the carnival parade was led by Ann Masters and Julie Harper on horseback.
Refreshments were available and the evening was rounded off with entertainment provided by Michelle Pluess and a disco.
