The Carnival Week Treasure Hunt held on Sunday 4'" July did not have many entrants but those who did partake enjoyed a nice trip around the countryside, stopping for an ice cream or tea and cake at Trevathan along the route and some even had a drink at the finishing post, the Cornish Arms, on their return. The Quiz Night at the Cornish Arms was very well supported and £126 was raised for the Air Ambulance, thank you very much to Lee and his staff for their support for both of these events.

The Carnival went very well considering the threat of rain, which just about held off until the procession was over. All those that came along were lucky enough to be able to enjoy a stroll around the field to see the marvellous array of entries that had turned out to entertain us. A big thank you to all those who entered as without you there would be no carnival. As always the entries were of a very high standard, with a good mix of art and fun, and the judges had a very difficult job to do.

Our Fairy King & Queen, Siegfried Bellringer-Burden and Bethanie Frigot arrived with their attendants, Alexandra Gowling & Rosa Berman, looking splendid in their outfits of green and white. It was lovely to see them smiling brightly and looking very much as though they were thoroughly enjoying themselves as they waved to the gathering crowd. They also helped to present the trophies at the prize giving after the procession, thank you to all very much and well done.

The committee would like to thank: Steve Luck for being our MC for the evening, Bill Hodge and Brian Lamerton for selling raffle tickets, Dave Smith for helping to marshal the procession, Barbara Lynn for helping with the raffle tickets, Jo Harris & Pauline Herbert for their help in the registration tent, Ernie Hillson & Joy Weaving for their work at the barbecue, Jeremy Northcott for the great photography, Ian Hodges & Brian Lamerton for putting up the bunting, Kevin Ray, Ross & Ian Hodges for providing the PA system, lighting etc., Merv Main, Sid Bastard and Mike Roberts for dressing up and being tin collectors. Also thanks to all those who gave raffle prizes including local businesses: The Post Office, Cedar Croft Nursery, Hengar Manor and the Cornish Arms. Kevin & Zoe Ray for judging the visiting queens, Frank & Pat Horton, Roy Arnold & Freda Ely for judging, Lesley, Samantha & Victoria Fraser for coming along to pick the winner of `The Howard Fraser Memorial Shield', Anne Masters & Hector for leading the procession, Nick Ely, Graham Keat & Christopher, Andrew & Michael for helping with the marquee and to local residents for their patience and co-operation. Thanks must also be given to the spouses and families of the committee members who all get called upon to help in some capacity before, during and after the carnival.

We are often asked if we have done well financially from the carnival night's proceedings and we usually say we have done all right. We are not a profit-making organisation but we try to keep enough funds in hand to be assured that we can pay the cost of the carnival if we every had to cancel due to bad weather. As you can imagine there are several costs that would have to be met even if the carnival didn't go ahead.

These costs have escalated in recent years but we are on a sound footing at the moment despite the carnival itself only making a very small profit this year. The total money taken including the Queen Choosing Coffee Morning, carnival raffle, barbecue, tin collections and bar was £1757.05 but our expenses including the silver band, steel band, insurance, royalty gifts and allowance, marquee, disco, trophies, donation to the playing field etc amounted to £1717,33 giving a profit of £39.72.

The Race Night held in May was very successful, raising £387.72 and has gone into the bank with our current funds to give us a healthy balance for the future.
