On Saturday 25th March the Village Hall looked and smelled wonderful!  Tables were laden with spring flowers, cakes, crafts and home produce.

The Judges had their work cut out to decide the best exhibits . . .

Burnard Hawken  from St Kew (Flowers)

Fran Hayes  from St Tudy (Handicraft)

Mrs J Borlase from Ruthernbridge (Cookery)

Mrs Angela Roose from St Teath (Floral Art)

It was good to see an increase in the number of handicrafts this year.  Sue Dibble was awarded the cup for most points in Handicrafts Section with a variety of entries from photos to poems

The  Winner’s Cup  and Best Exhibit in Show Cup went to Mrs Rita Taylor for a beautiful watercolour of spring flowers.

A lovely teddy bear won first prize in the toys for Angela Hocking.

There were delicious looking cakes, pots of jam, chutney, scones, bread, shortbread, biscuits to keep Mrs Borlase busy tasting.

The Wildey Cup for most points in Home Produce was won by Mrs Catherine Hudson, with Mrs Jane Miller winning the Runner-up Cup.

The Junior Section was very good too with some flower arrangements, iced buns, decorated eggs and poems about “My Best Friend”.

Many congratulations to Rebecca and Stephanie Trewin for such lovely entries and winning so many prizes!

The Play Group had sent in a large display of bookmarks decorated with pressed flowers . . .

. . and the winners were Daisy Finnemore, Anna Berman and Jessica Oddy.  It was Daisy’s book mark that was judged best junior exhibit for keeping the flowers so neatly presented that won her the Cup and Medal.  Well done – everyone!

Floral Art is always closely scrutinized!  With Mothering Sunday the next day it was an apt choice for an arrangement.

Blue, yellow and white make a beautiful combination.

Arranging just five flowers with own foliage is very difficult but very effective.

Judith Jasper’s foliage arrangement was judged the Best Exhibit in Floral Art and she also won the Weekes Rose Bowl for most points.

Bringing the Show forward and the cold winter had delayed the daffodils – but what a show they made!  It was good to see Burnard back judging the flowers after his recent illness and his eye was as sharp as ever.

Mrs Jean Smith won the Anne Luck memorial Cup for this collection of Daffodils and Narcissi.  Jean also won the Cup for Most Points in Flowers.

Congratulations to all the Winners!
