St Tudy Garden Produce Association Autumn Show 2011
The Autumn Show was held on Saturday 8th October in the Village Hall. As usual, the hall looked lovely with all the exhibits displayed to perfection! The judges were Mr Blake (vegetables), Mr Hawken (flowers), Mrs Bluett (floral art) and Miss Sheer (juniors). Mr Blake was very impressed with the standard of vegetables which he said was higher than last year! It was really nice to have a few more entries in the junior sections, particularly from the play group who entered a selection of amazing-looking animals made from vegetable matter: Alfie was awarded 1st prize, Evan 2nd and Mollie 3rd. The slightly older children's versions were equally innovative with Daniel Hocking taking the cup and medal for best exhibit in Junior classes with a really clever "tortoise", Isabelle Stapleton came 2nd, Joseph Hocking 3rd and Tom Stapleton was highly commended. For the autumn basket arrangement Joseph came 1st and Daniel 2nd, and Marley Lamerton-Madden came first for her allotment garden in a seed-tray. The "grown-ups" did really well, too! Mr Ivan Colston gained the cup for most points in Vegetable Section with Mr Sidney Bastard taking the runner-up cup. Mr M Armstrong won the Dick Lamerton cup for best vegetable collection. Mr Raymond Jago's magnificent collection of 24 onions on a stand was awarded the new trophy, the Sam Cotton Memorial Trophy, as well as the M E L Williams Cup for best exhibit in vegetables. The Cup for the best flower exhibit was won by Mrs Ivy Bastard for her perfect dahlias, and she also gained the F and M Hillson memorial cup for most points in flower section with Mr Colston gaining the runner-up cup. Mrs Judith Jasper swept the board in floral art winning the Millennium cup for most points and the Dulcie Denny cup for best exhibit for her arrangement of three apricot coloured dahlias.
