OVER 60’s
The over 60’s committee was formed 25 years ago by a
number of “under 60’s” wives. Then
they catered for about 70 people, but nowadays it is upwards of 140 elderly
residents.
They run one or two coffee mornings, in themselves social
gatherings, to raise money for activities.
In May “the outing” is chosen and organised by the committee, to a
different venue each year, followed by a delicious tea on the journey home.
“The dinner” is arranged in October, a much-anticipated
special occasion. All the
preparations, cooking and serving is undertaken by the committee, while their
husbands work hard in the background doing the washing up.
This is followed by entertainment, usually musical, and to end the
proceedings, everyone joins in all the old songs which the over 60’s know so
well.
To end the year, everyone over sixty receives a Christmas card from the committee, truly showing the caring side of St. Tudy.
