MEDIEVAL BANQUET
![]()
'Although it was the evening of Saturday May 24th 2003, the villagers of St Tudy went back in time several hundred years. Along the streets walked lords and ladies in their finery, accompanied by monks and nuns, peasants and serfs, all heading for the village hall for a Medieval Banquet hosted by the King and Queen of Misrule, Gareth (Taff) and Philomena Jones.
Wine and beer flowed freely and a wonderful meal of vegetable broth, roast chicken, beef and pork with vegetables, followed by syllabub and fruit salad was served by a bevvy of delightful village wenches. The Cam-Allen Folk Group started the proceedings with a trio of songs, persuading the diners to join in and later in the evening we were treated to more music provided by Phil Tizzard and members of the Cadon Chorus.
Jesters, Graham Keat and Phil Loader kept us amused with their antics, persuading some to tell jokes or sing for their supper, those not willing to participate were 'fined' (all proceeds to the Benefice).
This delightful event was the brainchild of the Reverend Margaret Millson, vicar of St Tudy, St Mabyn & Michaelstow, not just to raise funds for the churches, but mainly just to have fun! The hall was brightly decorated and the food prepared and cooked by a willing band of helpers. About half of those who attended, dressed up in period costumes which all added to the fun. Everyone had a wonderful time and many were heard to say that this should become an annual event! Once all the bills have been paid, a small profit is expected which will also go to the Benefice.
